Ann was six years old when she was diagnosed and fitted with hearing aids. Ann attends a large mainstream junior school. She is currently in year 6. She has a moderate hearing loss and uses 2 Oticon Spirit digital hearing aids. Her aided responses are very good and within the range of normal hearing – better than 20dBHL. Ann also has physical mobility problems. There is a history of hearing loss in the family, but other family members are reluctant hearing aid users. |

| Louise aged 6, current school year 1 |
| Overview: |
Louise is a lively, enthusiastic member of her class group. She attends a school with a resource base for deaf children. She is the middle child of three deaf children, born to hearing parents. She also has a younger hearing sibling. There is no history of deafness in other generations of the family. Louise was diagnosed at birth, fitted with two post-aural hearing aids and received a cochlear implant when she was three years old |

| Overview: |
Joseph has a cochlear implant. At a recent assessment at the cochlear implant centre, he responded to sound field warble tone stimuli at levels around 35dBHL across the frequencies. |
