Welcome
The South East Region SEN Partnership (SERSEN) is one of 11 partnerships (originally projects) established by the Department for Education and Employment (now the DfES) covering all Local Authorities in England. This page has information about the partnership, its Steering Group and its Management Team.
The LAs covered by SERSEN are:
Surrey, East Sussex, West Sussex, Brighton, Medway and Kent.
The partnerships were established following a commitment made by the UK government in November 1998, in their programme of action on special educational needs, to ensure better co-ordination of provision throughout the country. SERSEN was created in January 2000.
The main objective of the partnerships is help establish more effective regional co-ordination of special educational provision and services, in particular for low incidence disabilities, in order to:
-
ensure the general availability of services and
-
ensure the efficient provision of these services
-
allow the DfEE to produce and disseminate examples of good practice in developing regional co-ordination
-
developing more inclusive policies and practices
-
improving the efficiency and effectiveness of SEN process and services (including benchmarking and parent partnership services)
-
responding to, and engaging effectively with, Government initiatives
-
improving inter-agency working locally and regionally
Each regional grouping of LAs has been allowed to determine its own focus for their partnership, and more information about other partnerships can be found at www.teachernet.gov.uk/wholeschool/sen/regional

CLICK TO OPEN
The model of operation of the network of Special Educational Needs (SEN) Regional Partnerships (SENRPs) is unique. There are no other examples in the sphere of children’s services where voluntary partnerships bring multi-agency regional stakeholders together to deliver such an array of data, information, tools, products, strategies, policies, procedures and new practices that have been produced directly as a result of their activities.
Celebrating Achievement
The report, ‘Making Change Happen – the work of the SEN Regional Partnerships’is a celebration of the work and achievements of the network of SEN Regional Partnerships in England from their inception in January 1999 to December 2004.
